Jason Day and Cameron Tringale Leading the Charge in Naples

Jason Day and Cameron Tringale Leading the Charge in Naples
Jason Day and Cameron Tringale got off to a great start at yesterday’s Franklin Templeton Shootout.  Tying an event record with a first round score of 17-under-55.

The 2014 tournament got under way in Naples, Florida on Thursday featuring a new format and boasting eight of the world’s top-30 players in the field.

With big names including Jason Day, Matt Kuchar, Patrick Reed and Ian Poulter teeing off for a pretty successful first round scramble, all 12 teams ended the day at 11-under or better.

But it was Day, armed with the new R15 Driver from TaylorMade, and Tringale who seemed to have the team morale perfectly in tact.

Attacking the course at the Tiburon Golf Club with precision and a great game plan, the Australian/American duo finished two-strokes ahead of defending champions, Matt Kuchar and Harris English.

“I think we just read the greens really well together.  I think we have a similar approach to just seeing lines so we communicated really well,” Tringale told the Golf Channel afterwards.

“It was a good team effort,” added Day.  “[For] Cam to go up there and hit the fairway first, it took a lot of stress off my shoulders so I could just get up there and hit the driver and get somewhere closer to the green.”

The teams will be facing a modified alternate shot format today and best ball for tomorrow’s final.  But will Day and Tringale be able to hold onto their impressive lead?
