After an incredible bogey-free weekend, English golfer Justin Rose
has captured his 7th PGA Tour title at the Zurich Classic. Finishing 1-stroke ahead of Cameron Tringale.
With the tournament greatly affected by inclement weather, golfers were forced to abandon their games on Saturday, waking up Sunday to finish round three before completing their final rounds.
Rose proved to be in the winning zone. After coming in runner-up at The Masters tournament earlier this month, the 34-year-old was on fine form. Closing out the New Orleans event with an incredible 6-under-66 after back-to-back birdies on the final holes.
“The Masters was huge but it’s a second place. You can take a lot away from that but to knock down those last couple of putts here, as a player you can build on that and, if I find myself in a good position in a major championship, I can look back at those and take some confidence,” said Rose afterwards.
With this latest win the TaylorMade player ensures he has had at least one victory in the last six consecutive seasons, a huge boost for any player.
“On my way to the course this morning I was thinking, 2010, 2011, 12, 13, 14, and trying to work it out,” Rose told Sky Sports. “Six years in a row is not easy to do and I’m incredibly grateful and proud of that stat.”
Rose will now be hoping to carry the momentum forward as he heads into the summer months and perhaps more importantly as he looks ahead to the year’s remaining majors.
