Martin Kaymer Wins his First U.S. Open
Germany’s Martin Kaymer has claimed his second major win after a stunning four rounds at Pinehurst No. 2.

The 29-year-old finished on a 9-under 271, securing his first U.S. Open title, 8-strokes ahead of America’s Rickie Fowler and Erik Compton. Kaymer’s impressive run makes him only the 8th man in history to win the event after leading all four rounds.

“No one was catching Kaymer this week,” said Compton after the event’s conclusion. “I was playing for second.  I think we all were playing for second.”

With Henrik Stenson adding, “He kind of killed the event in the first two days. He went out and shot two 65s and left everyone in the dust.”

He might have been the leader throughout but Kaymer did feel the pressure on the final round, especially with two home-soil players hot on his heals.

“It was probably the toughest day that I played golf today, especially the first nine,” Kaymer said on Sunday. “Because if you have two or three Americans chasing you, playing in America, it's never easy being a foreigner.”

Kaymer seems to have found his stride and more importantly his stroke once again. The former number 1‘s focus is now solidly on gaining his spot on Paul McGinley’s Ryder Cup Team.

Telling reporters, “Overall, it was a very, very nice week for me and my main goal this year was to make the Ryder Cup team. I hope it's enough.”

Wondering what equipment helped Martin Kaymer secure last weekend’s U.S. Open title? Here’s a look at some of the gear the German carried around Pinehurst No. 2.
