Melissa Reid Earns 5th LET title with Turkish Airlines Open Win
Melissa Reid has claimed the Turkish Airlines Open after a sensational wire-to-wire win at Carya Golf Club in Belek.

The English golfer was on fire from start to finish, leaving little room for anyone to challenge her.  Playing in the first-ever Sunday to Wednesday format, Reid began the tournament with a stunning 8-under-65, her lowest-ever pro round score.

Her fine form continued throughout the event ending yesterday with an 11-under total to beat France’s Gwladys Nocera by 4-strokes.  Marking the 27-year-old’s fifth Ladies European Tour title, her first since winning the 2012 Prague Golf Masters.

“When you win you want to win properly and to lead every single day has been nice.  I’ve not been in that position before, so to win in that way does make it extra special,” Reid told reporters afterwards.

Reid will now be hoping to build on the momentum from this latest win to secure her spot on this year’s Solheim Cup Team.

Ladies golf legend Laura Davies didn’t do too badly this week either, with the 51-year-old finishing T3 alongside Kylie Walker and Sally Watson.  A result she was pleased with.

“It’s been a great week,” said Davies.  “I love the golf course.  I just wish we played it here every year because it’s a great course for the girls and gives us a chance to play some really good golf and make lots of birdies.  Mel made more than most of us, but overall I’m really pleased.”

The Sunday to Wednesday format seems to have been a hit with players and spectators alike.  Rolled out as a way to attract a wider television audience, the hope is a shift in the start and ending of tournament days will help propel women’s pro golf into a new space within the world of sport.
