Robert Allenby Fires Caddie Mid-Round at Canadian Open
PGA Tour veteran, Robert Allenby fired his caddie midway through the first round of the Canadian Open on Thursday after the two got into a “heated discussion.”

The incident began on Allenby’s fourth hole of the day, the par-5 13th at the Glen Abbey Golf Club.  After a disagreement over club selection, the 44-year-old Australian went on to triple the hole after landing in a creek.  A result he strongly felt was his caddie, Mick Middlemo’s fault.

While neither man disagrees over the initial cause of the flare-up, the ensuing war-of-words and who said what to cause the ultimate split are still up for debate.  With both Allenby and Middlemo turning to the media to air their version of events, this is turning into one interesting storyline.

“I said to him, ‘You know this happens every week. This has happened for like the last three or four or five months. We keep making bad mistakes, and you're not helping me in these circumstances,’” Allenby told ScoreGolf.com afterwards.

Adding, “And he just lost the plot at me. He just told me I could go eff myself.”

While Middlemo claims the golfer is the one who lost his temper and got personal with his insults.

Talking to ESPN.com the caddie claims, “There’s a lot as a caddie I can take but a personal attack like that.  If this was an office in any country in the world, that would be considered bullying.”

“I can take it if you call me the worst caddie in the world, tell me I’m horrible at picking clubs, but there’s a line you just can’t cross,” continued Middlemo.

After carrying his own bag for a hole, Allenby picked up a spectator to help him through the rest of a pretty dire round.  Finishing at 9-over-81.

This isn’t the first time a caddie has walked-out on Allenby.  The TaylorMade player had an incident during the 2007 BMW Open as well as at the 1995 Open Championship.

We’re not taking sides or anything but there’s something to be said for a person’s past speaking for itself.  And we’re not the only ones thinking it…
