Steven Bowditch Secures First Win on PGA Tour
Steven Bowditch was able to battle nerves and anxiety on the final day of the Valero Texas Open to triumphantly claim his first PGA Tour title.

Going into Sunday 3-strokes ahead of the competition, Bowditch did not have an easy final round.  While it looked as if the pressure might overcome the 30-year-old, Bowditch managed to hang on despite finishing with a 4-over 76. Capturing his first win and his first invite to the Masters this month.

It will be only the second time in 11 years that Bowditch will compete in a major tournament.  When asked how he will prepare, the laid back Australian admitted he wasn’t sure.

Stating “the only time I have played Augusta has been on PlayStation.” Before adding, “I’m excited but then I haven’t really thought about it or what my preparations will be. I don’t even know how to get to Augusta.”

Before he has to start worrying about getting to Georgia, Bowditch will now concentrate on carrying the momentum gained from San Antonio over to the Shell Houston Open later this week.

Callaway’s Phil Mickelson had been hoping the Valero would be a good way to get his momentum going for Augusta, but the 43-year-old was forced to withdraw during the third round, citing a pulled muscle in his right side.

It is unclear whether Mickelson will be able to play in Houston this weekend and also sheds doubt on his fitness for the Masters.
