Teams Europe and U.S.A Confirmed for Next Month’s Solheim Cup
The wild card picks are in and the teams have been selected for next month’s hotly anticipated Solheim Cup set to take place in Germany.
European Captain, Carin Koch confirmed her final four wild card picks Tuesday morning live on Sky Sports’ Sportswomen. Adding Karine Icher, Caroline Hedwall, Caroline Masson and golf legend Catriona Matthew to her 12-women squad.
All four of Koch’s wild card picks were part of Team Europe’s battering of the U.S. side (18-10) two years ago in Colorado. Leading to the ladies’ first-ever victory on foreign soil.
Team Europe will now be hoping to continue their winning streak against the Americans as they head to Golf Club St. Leon Rot-Heidelberg in September looking for their third consecutive victory.
“We’ve got a great mixture of youth and experience which really excites me as captain,” Koch told Sportswomen. “Each of our players has a role to play and I have a team of stars. Now the team is finalised we can all have full focus for the week in Germany and I can’t wait to see the players together at Golf Club St Leon-Rot.”
With 46-year-old Matthew stating, “Obviously I was delighted and very excited when Carin gave me the phone call and I can’t wait to play in the Solheim Cup. It has always been my favourite event and to play as part of a team is so good.”
The Scottish golfer added, “Since winning in Colorado my main aim has been to get in the team. As you get older, it gets harder to qualify but this will be my eighth one so it will be great to play at home and defend it hopefully.”
Team U.S.A has also confirmed its 12 players, featuring Michelle Wie, Paula Creamer and World Number 3 Stacy Lewis.
The action is scheduled to kick off September 18th and we can’t wait to see what the ladies have in store for us this time around. Go Team Europe!
