Adam Scott Dazzles with Lowest Round Score at Bay Hill in 30 Years
by Maura Hutchinson
“ ‘Beware of the sick golfer’, is a really true adage,” Scott said afterwards. “It lowers the expectations, slows you down and almost takes your mind off what’s going on – because you’re not even feeling human.”
On a course that Scott doesn’t have a great history with, in his last appearance at Bay Hill in 2009 he missed the cut, the 33-year-old was on fire carding 2 eagles and 7 birdies. Helping the Australian to a 3-stroke lead and the lowest score at the course in 30 years.
The fervent start surprised even the golfer.
“I don't know where it came from, but the putter certainly got hot today,” Scott said.
“But I like the changes they've made (to the course) since the times I have not been here. And today was just one of those days where the hole was a bit like a bucket.”
Scott will be hoping the holes stay like buckets for the rest of the weekend. As a win at Bay Hill could put the Titleist player in prime position to overtake Tiger Woods and claim the number 1 spot in the world.
“I’ve dreamt about being No 1 since I was kid,” Scott said. “So I’m going to be doing my best to take this opportunity because the well might dry up and I might never have this chance again.”
