Adam Scott Pulls Out of Rio 2016

Adam Scott announced earlier this week that he would not be participating in the Olympic games later this summer in Rio.

In a statement the Australian cited an already packed schedule saying, “My decision has been taken as a result of an extremely busy playing schedule and other commitments, both personal and professional.”

The summer Olympics come at a particularly hectic time for professional golfers with the U.S. Open, the Open Championship and the PGA Championship all happening in the lead up to Rio.  2016 is also a Ryder Cup year, making it a high-pressure season for the biggest names in golf.

Scott’s decision to bow out doesn’t come as a huge shock but he is one of the first major players to decline the chance to win a gold medal in golf for the first time in over a century.  Former World Number 1 Vijay Singh confirmed last week he would also be skipping the Olympics, stating he preferred to concentrate on the PGA Tour this year and also mentioning the Zika virus as another reason he would not be participating.

Leaving many to wonder will this be the last big name to pull out of Rio???
