Americans Win Fifth Consecutive Presidents Cup

by Maura Hutchinson

The Americans have secured the Presidents Cup for the fifth consecutive time, their ninth win in the history of the tournament.  Tiger Woods clinched victory for captain Fred Couples in the exact fashion he did in 2009 and 2011.  Giving America a final three-point lead against the internationals.

What looked to be a landslide victory early in the weekend turned into a nervous Sunday as the Americans seemed to lose some of their drive, allowing Nick Price’s team to up their game and edge in on the points scale.  But the lead forged by Couple’s squad proved to be too vast for Internationals.  With Woods solidifying their defeat with a 1-up victory over Richard Sterne.

“It was a team effort this whole week,” said Woods.  “We really played well to give ourselves a nice lead.”
