Bubba Watson Wins his First WGC at HSBC Champions

Bubba Watson has claimed his first World Golf Championship after winning his playoff against Tim Clark at the HSBC Champions in Shanghai.

Watson proved on Sunday he’s not one to give up on, even when the situation looks hopeless. After bogeying the 16th and double bogeying the 17th it seemed the American golfer was out of luck at Sheshan International.

Cut to the 18th bunker and Watson telling his caddie, “It's been a miserable couple holes here, but this will change everything if it goes in.”

The 36-year-old then goes on to pull off one of the most incredible shots out of the sand we’ve ever seen, forcing a playoff with Clark.

“You always joke about holing it,” Watson said afterwards. “And then it actually went in. I didn't know how to react and so I just kind of screamed, and I lost my voice a little bit. It was one of those shots, a one-in-a-lifetime kind of shot. And so it was pretty neat.”

The dramatic final round ended shortly after with Watson holing a 20-foot putt to claim the title.  An achievement the American golfer is very proud of.

“Being able to win outside the U.S., I just want to be able to travel and get through the jet lag, get through all the things and still perform at a high level,” he told reporters yesterday. “So for me to win out here, this is very big. This is very special for me.”
