Consistency Finally Pays off for Stacy Lewis

by Maura Hutchinson

She is considered to be one of the best players on the LPGA Tour. After consistently being at the top-end of the leader board for the past few months, Stacy Lewis won her ninth LPGA career title at the North Texas LPGA Shoot Out on Sunday.

Surrounded by friends and family throughout the weekend, the Texas native stormed the tournament, finishing at 16-under 268, an incredible six-strokes ahead of runner-up Meena Lee. Giving Lewis the widest victory margin since Jiyai Shin won the 2012 Ricoh Women’s British Open by nine.

“I've been wanting to do this for a long time. I kind of have these mini goals in the back of my mind,” the American said afterwards. “One of them was kind of taking a tournament and running away with it. ... So to be so close the last few weeks and then to come out and shoot 64, I mean I don't even know what to say.”

With Sunday’s win, Lewis moves from the number three spot up to number two in the world rankings. The 29-year-old has been the picture of steady play throughout the season.  Racking up two wins, six runner-ups and a whopping 19 top-eight finishes in her last 22 starts. Giving Lewis the top spot on the LPGA money list.

The Mizuno player was thrilled with Sunday’s result and happy to have done it on what she considers home turf.

“It's relief. I've been so close the last few months, and just to do it and to do it here of all places,” Lewis said. “It's one of those things that I almost felt like it was meant to be.”
