Dustin Johnson Wins HSBC Champions While Rory McIlroy Secures Spot in Dubai

Dustin Johnson claimed his first World Golf Championship on Sunday with a win at the Shanghai HSBC Champions.  The American was able to edge out England’s Ian Poulter, finishing the tournament with an impressive 24-under-par.

“This is the biggest win of my career and hopefully there are better things to come,” Johnson said afterwards.  “A major is always the next step.  Am I suited best for one or the other?  I don't think so. I think they all suit me very well.”

As Johnson looks ahead to future major success, Rory McIlroy is breathing a sigh of relief after securing a spot at the season ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.  Straight off his win over Tiger Woods last week, the Northern Irishman showed more promise over the weekend, finishing in a tie for 6th.

“It was a good week,” said the 24-year-old Nike player.  “It was a step in the right direction for sure.”
