Karrie Webb Wins Ladies European Masters
by Maura Hutchinson
The Hall of Famer came to England a week ahead of the Women’s British Open to get accustomed to the time zone and entered the Ladies European Masters for some practice. A gorgeous round on Sunday meant Webb was able to edge ahead of the competition, winning the tournament with an overall 16-under par.
“I came over here to get some tournament rounds under my belt, get some confidence going, get into the time zone and British conditions,” said Webb. “To win is just the icing on the cake. I'm very happy with how I played this week and I got more and more confident on the course as the week went on.”
The Australian seems to have taken a page out of Phil Mickelson’s “practice” book. Like Mickelson at the Scottish Open, the run-through in Denham paid off for Webb. The 38-year-old will now be hoping to emulate the American once more, as she looks to capture a second consecutive British win on the Old Course at St. Andrews.
