Miguel Angel Jimenez Proving Age is Just a Number
by Maura Hutchinson
Jimenez stormed into contention over the weekend forcing a three-man playoff with Thomas Pieters and Richard Green. The Spanish golfer came out the victor, securing Jimenez his first win at the tournament in 27 appearances.
“I've played so many times in the Spanish Open, it's great to finally win it, it's amazing to win the national Open of my country,” stated Jimenez afterwards. “Every title is special, and you don't like to say one is better than the other but to win the Spanish Open is very, very important to me.”
Jimenez’s triumph also beats Arnold Palmer’s record, making him the event’s oldest champion and the European Tour’s first winner over the age of 50.
Jimenez played down any secrets behind his latest success. Stating, “It's no secret, just good food, good wine, good cigars and a bit of exercise - simple.”
