When the two golfers were paired up during the first two rounds of The Players Championship in May Mickelson told reporters, “The excitement that’s been going on around here, it gets me thinking. Why don’t we just bypass all the ancillary stuff of a tournament and just go head-to-head and just have kind of a high-stake, winner-take-all match.”
Woods response was classic, stating, “I’m definitely not against that. We’ll play for whatever makes him uncomfortable.”
Well, it seems the “uncomfortable” figure for Lefty is $10 million. And it also seems that the wheels on this matchup have already been set in motion as Mickelson confirmed to reporters this past weekend in West Virginia.
“We’re working on a different date,” said Mickelson on Saturday. “I thought it was done for the 3rd (July), but obviously it wasn’t.”
