Rory McIlroy Ready to Attack the First Round of Match Play

For Rory McIlroy the key to being successful at the WGC-Accenture Match Play rests in being aggressive from the start.

Explaining his strategy to reporters yesterday McIlroy said, “In a 72-hole tournament, you can play your way into the round. Here, you have to attack from the very start.”

Twelve months seems to have made a world of difference for the Nike player. Having moved on from a disappointing 2013, McIlroy is back to looking confident and focused both on and off the course. The 24-year-old is pleased with his performances so far this year but knows there’s still more to be done in order to win.

“It has been a nice positive start to the season, I have just tried to continue that the last couple of weeks, practiced hard. I have worked hard and I feel like I'm seeing the results of that now.”

McIlroy will be playing Boo Weekley today, knowing he must be on his game from the get-go in order to make it thru the first round of the knockout event.
