Team Europe Retains Lead at Inaugural EurAsia Cup

Team Europe has come out swinging at the first ever EurAsia Cup in Kuala Lumpur. Leading 7-3 over Team Asia after today’s second round.

European captain Miguel Angel Jimenez and his team, including Graeme McDowell, Jamie Donaldson and Stephen Gallacher, got off to an amazing start on Thursday, securing all five matches.

Despite a tried comeback from Asia during today’s foursomes, team Europe was able to hang on to their lead and will enter the third and final day three points ahead of Thongchai Jaidee's team.

“At the end of the day I am happy,” said Jimenez. “We managed to half a couple of matches and win another one. It was a tough day in the heat and Asia played very well today. At one point it looked like it was going to be the opposite of yesterday.”

The Europeans will now need just three-and-a-half points tomorrow to secure the title. But Jimenez isn’t taking his lead for granted just yet.

“It's going to be an interesting day tomorrow,” the 50-year-old said. “We must stay focused and try to win the points as soon as possible.”
