“I’m excited,” said Woods after the final round. “This is the way I’ve been playing at home.”
This marks the 14x major winner’s best finish since 2013 and provides a hopeful setting for his 2018 rounds. Woods’ positive performance over the weekend even got some of the other players amped up. With Justin Thomas stating, “He’s got a lot of energy. It’s just so weird to say that you’re excited for somebody else’s year, but it will be a fun year.”
Thomas, who last week joked that he “was looking forward to trying to kick his a**,” might want to get practicing as he finished behind Woods on Sunday in 11th place.
While many were fixated on Tiger’s return, it was Rickie Fowler who stole the show on Sunday in Albany. Coming back from a 7-shot deficit to beat Charley Hoffman by 4-strokes. The Cobra/Puma player was on fire as he hit 7 straight birdies to finish with an incredible 11-under 61.
“I knew I needed to get off to a quick start today to at least show Charley I was there, and get up there on the board a little bit,” Fowler told reporters afterwards. “We took care of that and kept it rolling from there.”
Earning his second win of the year the 28-year-old now jumps to number 7 in the world rankings. Not a bad way to finish 2017!
