Woods and McIlroy to play Dubai Desert Classic

by Maura Hutchinson

It’s the tournament where Tiger Woods says he has “really good memories” and where Rory McIlroy won his first victory at the age of 19.  Last week the world’s number one and number two, respectively, confirmed they would be playing in the 2014 Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

Having both skipped the tournament last year in favour of the Abu Dhabi Championship, the golfers are excited to play in a tournament that has brought each of them success.

“I've got great memories of this course and of this tournament. It was nice to get my first professional win in Dubai,” McIlroy said.  “I had my parents there with me and it was a special moment that I will never forget. That win was a real stepping stone for the success that followed and my relationship with Dubai went from strength to strength.”

Celebrating its 25th Anniversary the tournament will take place at the Emirates Golf Club January 30 – February 2 of next year.
