Zach Johnson’s One Stroke Victory in Kapalau

by Maura Hutchinson

Zach Johnson began 2014 much in the same way he ended 2013, with an impressive win on the golf course.

While it might not have been as dramatic as his bounce-shot victory at the World Challenge, Johnson’s latest win, at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions demonstrated the 37-year-old’s determination after losing his three-stroke lead on Sunday.

During his bogey-free round on Monday, Johnson was able to regain his focus and strength.  This was most apparent on the back nine where the Titleist player shot four birdies in five holes. Edging out Jordan Spieth to claim his 11th PGA Tour win.

“Today I just tried to stay unemotional and remain athletic,” Johnson said afterwards.  “Hit some quality shots that certainly helped. But I think quality putts helped even more.”
