Callaway Releases XR Range for Golfers Looking for “Outrageous Speed”

Callaway golf has announced the launch of its latest designs, the XR family, featuring nine new clubs the brand claims are “built for outrageous speed.”

Utilising cutting-edge technology and innovations, Callaway has come up with a formula they believe can serve every golfer, offering maximum distance and ball speed regardless of level.

Working off a “racing” model, the XR line is the successor to the X2 Hot and comes from the brand’s desire to take golf hardware design to a higher level.  Tackling face, construction and shape technology more aggressively than ever before.

Callaway’s Head of R&D, Dr. Alan Hocknell explains the concept to Harry Arnett on Callaway Talks stating.

“It’s about looking for the high-energy version of a golf club.  We were inspired by automotive and by the racing side of automotive.  Taking ourselves to a whole other level, a higher gear and working to get more ball speed and more distance.”

The results are a game-changing range of clubs featuring XR drivers, fairway woods, hybrids and irons.

Crafted from titanium the XR Driver features the brand’s Speed Step Crown, helping to maximise speed while reducing drag throughout your swing.  Further enhanced by R-Moto face technology, the XR has a thinner, more flexible face, reducing its weight by up to 10%.



The XR Pro Driver takes a different approach, using a forged composite crown designed to offer low spin with forgiveness for the better golfer.

For the XR Fairway Woods, Callaway are using a completely redesigned head shape.  Sporting a 16% larger sweet spot as well as a 20% lower CG and 36% thinner next generation Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup.  The results equal increased ball speed where and when you need it most.

The XR Fairway Woods are also available in the XR Pro model as well as the XR Deep model, helping players reach unrivalled distance and speed on and off the tee.

Designed for easy launch and maximum distance, the XR Hybrid also utilises the Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup to increase ball speed throughout the face of the club as well as offering golfers more forgiveness.



Meanwhile, the XR Pro Hybrid has been specifically crafted, using a more compact head design to make a hybrid that’s even longer and forgiving, perfectly engineered for better players.

Last, but certainly not least, we come to the XR Irons.  Created using a unique 2-piece construction, these irons benefit from an Internal Standing Wave to improve playability as well as a Cup Face Design, promoting increased forgiveness, greater ball speed and better accuracy.



The XR Pro Irons take these incredible innovations, refining them into the perfect design to suit the better golfer.



With nine new clubs already being rolled out, Callaway golf is off the great start for 2015.
