Nike Unveils its Latest Designs with the Vapor Iron Family

Earlier this week Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy got together in New York to help Nike announce the release of its latest iron designs, the Vapor Pro, Vapor Pro Combo and the Vapor Speed.

Featuring the incredible Modern Muscle technology the Vapor Irons have been expertly designed to move the weight of the club towards the toe, shifting the centre of gravity to the centre of the club face in order to yield more efficient and pure strikes.

A super sleek design including neon accents, give these irons the edge with a modern twist on the traditional blade.

The Nike philosophy is based on a belief that there is always something better.  This idea as well as insight and feedback from staff players, including Woods, have helped master craftsman Mike Taylor to produce the brand’s latest range.

“We started with the traditional blade and asked what could be done to enhance its performance and modernize the design while maintaining a traditional, pure look at address,” says Rob Arluna, Nike Golf’s Global Golf Club Business Director.  “Thanks to Tiger’s inspiration, coupled with Rory’s added insights, we made the Vapor Pro blades feel and perform better with a technology advantage over the traditional blade. We then extended that innovation and design to Vapor Pro Combo and Vapor Speed.”

When studying Woods’ past blades, the Nike design team noticed the wear pattern was directly in the middle of his club face, not towards the heel where the bulk of the club’s weight is carried.

“We had this idea, if we moved the CG towards the centre of the face that it would have more impact and more mass right behind the golf ball.  And it worked,” explained Woods.  “I was able to hit the ball a little bit further, it came off more solid, and the amazing thing is the ball flew better.”

38-year-old Woods has said in the past he will only put a new club in his bag if it’s better than the one he’s already got.  While McIlroy used a prototype Pro Combo 2-iron last month during his Open Championship win.

Glowing references from the two most recognisable faces in golf will certainly help the reputation of the Vapor family when they become available at the end of October 2014.
