Technology Behind RangeFinders
Bushnell pioneered the golf laser rangefinder, and have developed every technological break-through ever since. In this section, you'll learn about the targeting modes: PinSeeker™ senses and locks to the flagstick, ignoring background clutter. Slope Mode measures slope and compensates range based on trajectory and club selection. And the Scan Mode allows you to view continuously updated distances to targets as you pan across the landscape.
Also introducing you to the patented Rainguard® HD water-repellent lens coating used on all new Pro 1600 series. Lastly, will explain how laser rangefinders work, the various LCD features, and discuss how target reflectivity varies by target type. With the technologies that go into Bushnell laser rangefinders, it's no wonder Bushnell is the brand of choice for over 90% of PGA, LPGA and Champions Tour Pros.
Bushnell Rangefinders are the most popular brand of rangefinder on the USA PGA and European Tour. Players who endorse the brand include
Ricky Fowler,
Sergio Garcia and
Hale Irwin because of their ease of use and accuracy they can be trusted by the pro's when on practise rounds before an event.
At Golf Online we stock the whole Bushnell range of rangefinders.
Targeting Modes
PinSeeker™ - Designed exclusively with the bottom of the cup in mind, this mode allows easy acquisition of the flag without inadvertently capturing background target distances. When more than one object is acquired, the closer of the two objects is shown on the LCD display.
Scan - The Scan mode allows you to pan across the landscape while viewing a continuously updated LCD display of the distances between you and the targets you scan with the viewfinder.
Slope - Measures slope, +/- one degree of angle, and compensated range, based upon ball trajectory and type of club used. All shown on an LCD display.
How Laser RangeFinders Works ?
Bushnell's laser rangefinders use an invisible, eye-safe Class 1 Laser beam (as classified by the FDA) which is "bounced" off distant objects with the press of a button.

Then, the rangefinder's high-speed digital clock measures the time it took for a laser beam to reach a target and return to the unit. Next, using advanced digital electronics, the rangefinder instantly calculates the distance within + / – 1 yard and shows the range in either yards or meters on a through-the-lens LCD Display. The entire process is so fast that less than a second elapses between the time you press the button to generate a laser beam to the time the exact range to your target is displayed.
LCD Features
A. Targeting Mode

B. Meters/Yards - You can quickly choose between these standard measuring units with a simple press of a button.
C. Reticle - The distance to objects targeted in these crosshairs will be displayed on the Distance Readout with the press of a button.
D. Battery Indictor Flashes when battery power is low.
E. Slope Information.
Reflectivity of Target Types
Because rangefinders "bounce" a laser beam off the target in order to take a measurement, their range is partially determined by the reflectivity of the target. In other words, hard or "reflective" targets - like a rock cliff or semi-truck - can be measured at greater distances than soft surface targets. Ranges for moderately reflective targets, like trees, fall somewhere in the middle. Smaller targets, like flags, have been very difficult to target until now - thanks to PinSeeker® Technology.
RainGurad HD Anti Fog Technology
Rainguard® HD is a patented, permanent, hydrophobic, oleophobic lens coating that causes moisture from rain, snow, sleet and your breath to instantly bead-up into smaller droplets and scatter. These tiny droplets divert dramatically less light and keep your view bright and clear when an untreated lens would be rendered useless.

To create the ultimate optics, we knew we had to develop a solution to the fogged lens. We perfected this technology, and you'll only find it on select Bushnell® optics. Conversely, you will find a few imitators, some that require periodic reapplication. They work sometimes, or not at all. Absolute surety at the moment of truth is what Rainguard® HD is all about. Without it, you're not ready.
Waterproof
Some laser rangefinders are O-ring sealed for total waterproof protection. These models can withstand complete immersion in water and stay dry inside.
