Amateurs believing that it is the golf ball choices of many of the top professionals that helps them shoot low rounds may want to consider options from Titleist.

The manufacturer creates unarguably the most popular golf ball in golf, with over half of the field in all barring one of the nine PGA Tour events played so far in the 2010 season using the manufacturer's balls.

And the one tournament which did not was the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, which also consisted of players from the European Tour and some from Asia.

Yet, it was still the highest ranked golf ball manufacturer with 44 per cent of the 64-man field playing with Titleist golf balls, showing the range's global likeability.

Meanwhile, in 2010, some 21 victories in all professional competitions have been accrued by players using Titleist golf equipment, with the nearest competitor collecting just three triumphs.

No doubt the most popular ball among professionals is the Titleist Pro V1x golf balls, used by stars including Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Henrik Stenson.

The balls utilise a four-piece dual construction design, which not only supports players hitting long straight shots with their golf drivers, but also a soft feel and added playability to offer the ultimate in greenside control.

Furthermore, in comparison to the older Titleist Pro V1x golf balls, more velocity and lower spin enables greater distances to be reached off the tee and the cover durability has been improved, which ensures that scoring performance has not diminished.

The greater distance comes from a new speed-enhancing lonomeric casing layer, while consistent ball flight is created by a specialist dimple design.

Another popular option is the Titleist Pro V1 golf balls.

World number two Steve Stricker, Geoff Ogilvy and Camilo Villegas are all supporters of the three-piece multi-layer construction to maximise distance, durability and performance.

A soft feel is created by a newly-reformulated large core, while a high-performance Urethane Elastomer enhances the cover durability.

Among amateur players, a more popular choice could be the Titleist NXT Tour golf balls, which features an advanced solid core.

Added control on approach shots into greens and improved spin to support a player's short game is supported by a softer cover, alongside a softer ball compression.

Alternatively, those looking for added distance may want to opt for Titleist NXT Tour Extreme golf balls.

This is not done at the detriment of feel and playability, with aerodynamics boosted by a staggered wave parting line.

Players may also improve their results with their golf putter as the ball features alignment integrated marking to help them line their shots up appropriately when on the green.

Another option includes Titleist PTS Roll Yellow golf balls, which offers a more penetrating ball flight and greater roll upon landing.

Meanwhile, Titleist PTS Carry Golf Balls have a new high-lift 252 dimple design to generate higher ball flight.

This greater carry could prove suitable for players with a slow swing and help clear hazards that may lie on a fairway.
