Darren Clarke driver has 'great functionality'
Darren Clarke's magnificent Open Championship victory at the weekend at Royal St George's was a masterclass of consistent hitting.

Despite the blustery conditions and the constant pressure from his rivals - until the last four holes, at least - the 42-year-old kept his cool and landed on fairway after fairway throughout the tournament.

It should come as no surprise, then, to find out that one of the secrets to Clarke's success is the TaylorMade R11 Driver.

With flight control technology (FCT) that provides adjustable loft and a customisable sole plate to enable the face angle to be changed, this is a club that can be tweaked to fit perfectly with any playing style.

The centre of gravity can be shifted using its movable weight technology, while its aerodynamic shape promotes faster clubhead speed for bigger hitting.

Looks-wise, this is an imposing addition to any bag, with a white head and black face complemented by its bright red angle adjuster.

"The more a driver is tuned to you, the farther you'll hit it," TaylorMade suggest. "With R11's 3D Tuning, you can independently tune loft, face angle and flight path to your swing to maximize your distance. Only R11 is this adjustable. Only R11 gives you this much control over your distance."

Clarke's win is the first time this club has been victorious at a major, but it is unlikely to be the last, with second-placed Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer and Jason Day all TaylorMade R11 players.

GolfOnline.com reviewer Jonathon Evans bought this club recently and loves it.

"I have to say that TaylorMade have done themselves proud with this club!" he commented. "I did have the R9, but felt the need to keep up with technology. It is a bit lighter than the R9, but still goes very well when struck out of the middle. All of the FCT does make a difference to ball flight which is great and has added on average 15-20 yards to my drives."

In Golf Monthly magazine, meanwhile, former PGA Tour professional turned Champions Tour stalwart John Jacobs was mightily impressed.

"This looked amazing and I loved the functionality. It has made fitting easier by having a soleplate that adjusts the face, rather than the hosel doing it.

"It's an 'in-your-face look', but it will impress many. The first white driver I have used and there was one extra feature I noticed: you can see the swing path as you hit through impact, which could really help some."
