Kaymer looking forward to 'home' tournament
Martin Kaymer is looking forward to playing 15 minutes from home as he makes his second appearance on the PGA Tour at this week's Waste Management Phoenix Open.

The German is currently residing in Scottsdale, Arizona, which is the destination of the ninth event of the 2010 PGA Tour season.

Kaymer is hoping to continue his strong start to the year with his golf irons, having already emerged victorious on the European Tour, and put his best foot forward in front of his friends who are likely to be in attendance.

He said: "I just really try to enjoy this week. It's not one of the most important weeks in the year, it's not like a major or anything, but for me, playing kind of in front of my friends here, amazing spectators, of course I want to do well.

"I should really appreciate the possibility to stay at my own place, sleep in my own bed, know where to go for breakfast and know where to go for dinner. It will work out, I hope."

Kaymer added that he is expecting tough pin placements at the TPC Scottsdale course, although the tournament may prove slightly easier as the rough is not as thick as it could have been.

Meanwhile, TaylorMade golf clubs user Kenny Perry returns as the defending champion after collecting victory in a play-off 12 months ago.

He has finished in the top 20 in Phoenix four times since 2005 and opened the PGA Tour season by sharing sixth spot at the SBS Championship.

The TaylorMade Tour Burner golf driver user also arrives refreshed after being eliminated in the opening round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship by Brian Gay.

World number three Phil Mickelson is a two-time champion in Phoenix, but has failed to set the world alight with his Callaway golf equipment thus far in 2010.

Solid results may also be expected of the big-hitting JB Holmes, who has performed promisingly in recent weeks on tougher courses that may not have ideally benefited his game in the past.

However, his power may be more suited to TPC Scottsdale and a reproduction of his recent form with his Cobra Pro CB golf irons could see him go close.

Geoff Ogilvy, Robert Allenby and Zach Johnson are others capable of stringing together four strong rounds to mount a challenge, as is Charley Hoffman, who lost in the play-off last year.

Hoffman said: "My game feels good right now. I have played four weeks in a row, made two cuts and finished in the 30s. It's not that great, but I'm building some momentum.

"I got in a couple of bad ruts in the beginning of the year and worked those out and now I'm ready to go for the gold, I guess."

He added that TPC courses typically allow players to take golf drivers off the tee because of their generousness, although the greens tend to be slightly smaller than the norm.
