For a long time Phil “Lefty” Mickelson has had the dubious
honour of being the world’s second best player. Born in San Diego in 1970 and raised in
both San Diego and Arizona, Mickelson has been the embodiment of traditional
American values and a crowd favourite for many years.
Powerful from the tee and an artist around the greens, Phil
has amassed an impressive 34 tour titles including 3 Majors. With the most
talked about short game in golf, he has perfected every shot you could think of
with a wedge. His driving is no less impressive, and has been told by many of
his coaches to slow down his swing. This includes a public falling-out he had
with renowned coach Butch Harmon after they had differing views on his approach
to the long game.
Phil also landed himself in hot water just before the 2004
Ryder Cup, whereby he effectively ended his contract with Titleist Golf after
praising Callaway golf
equipment. He left his Titleist contract early and decided to sign with
Callaway Golf, where he has been since. |
