On the 30th December 1975, the son of an American Army
Lieutenant (Earl) and Thai mother (Kutilda), Tiger Eldrick Woods was born. Given
the distinctive name as a tribute by his father to a Vietnamese soldier he
served with in the Vietnam War, it wasn’t long before it became obvious that
Tiger was destined for great things.
By the age of 2 he had already been introduced to the game and made an
appearance on TV alongside Bob Hope. At age three he scored an unbelievable 48
over 9 holes, a testament to the support he received from his parents and in
particular Earl, who was himself a golfer.
Tiger charged onto the Professional golf scene after showing great promise as an
amateur. He won his first major in the 1997 Augusta Masters at the age of 21;
something unheard of in the modern game. He has since won every Major and
cemented his place in history and is arguably the greatest golfer of all time.
All Tiger has left to do is win all 4 majors in one year (called the Grand
Slam). His long time sponsors
Nike Golf have helped
to provide him with his tools of the trade and with their association he has
recently become the highest earning sports person in the world.
