Created in the 1930’s, Titleist has been a
major force in the golf equipment industry almost since its inception. As one
of the brands owned by the Acushnet Company (alongside
Footjoy,
Scotty Cameron,
Cobra and Pinnacle) Titleist has helped to make Acushnet Company become perhaps
the biggest golf equipment and apparel manufacturer in the world.
Much of Titleist’s success is built on
their mission to “satisfy golfers with golf products of superior performance and
quality”. If the professional tours are anything to go by, Titleist is
certainly doing that! Titleist equipment is the most used on tour, with the
most players using their
golf balls,
wedges and irons in 2009, and coming a close second for their
drivers,
fairway woods and
hybrid clubs.
First played on tour in 2000, the
Pro V1 range of golf balls quickly became the most popular on tour. By 2004
their widespread use led Titleist to use the slogan “#1 Ball in Golf”. Having
changed little since 2000, the
Titleist Pro V1 and
Pro V1x remains the ball of choice for professionals and amateurs alike.
Minor changes have been made to the Pro V1 range for 2009 to improve the
durability of the cover as well as provide slightly better distance.
Titleist is not only a golf ball company
however, and the same commitment to quality and performance has seen them
dominate the wedge market. Over 40% of PGA Tour professionals used
Titleist wedges in 2009. The new
Spin Milled Vokey wedges come in three different finishes, range in loft
from 48º -64º
and have varying bounce options to cater for your preference.
The
909 series of woods released in 2009 are used by many of the world’s best
players including
Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy,
Steve Stricker and
Robert Karlsson.
There are three current offerings for
drivers, all aimed at low or mid handicap golfers, the
909D2
as played by Rory McIlroy, the
909D3 as used by
Steve Stricker and the
909D
Comp.
The new Titleist
909F2 and
909F3 fairway woods are designed for the mid and low handicap player looking
for control over the ball. Paired with top quality shafts from Aldila and
Mitsubishi, these woods are a great choice for players who want to work the ball
from side to side.
The Titleist
909H is the only hybrid offering from Titleist in 2009, however its ease of
use will endear it to golfers of all abilities.
As well as producing high quality golf
equipment, Titleist also make a range of top quality accessories including
caps,
towels and bags.
