Cheyenne Woods Living up to Famous Last Name at LPGA’s Q-School
She might be related to arguably the world’s most famous golfer, but Cheyenne Woods has worked hard to make her own way in the world of professional golf. On Sunday, earning her LPGA Tour card after finishing in the top 20 at Q-School.
The 24-year-old niece of Tiger Woods showed strength and determination during the 90-hole competition. Battling her way back after a disappointing second round 79 to ultimately finish at 5-under for a share of 11th place.
After two missed tries at Q-School, Woods was elated with the results on her third attempt. An achievement she is happy to have reached on her own merit.
“The work I’ve done has paid off,” she said after Sunday’s round. “It wasn’t given to me. Nothing was handed to me. It was me, at home, working every day, all the hours I’ve put in on the golf course. It wasn’t a connection, or somebody I knew getting me in. It was me, playing 90 holes this week and playing well. It felt so good to have earned that, and to become an LPGA member on my own.”
Playing on both the Ladies European and Symetra Tours for the past 12 months, Woods has worked hard to improve her skills. Earning a win at the Australian Ladies Masters back in February.
“This year has been a roller coaster,” explained Woods. “The very first tournament I played, I missed the cut, a European Tour event, and then I won the next one. Between my win and Q-School, I didn’t play well. So, it was tough.”
But the Nike player added, “At the end of the day, I’m extremely happy with 2014. It’s probably one of the best days of my life.”
