Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano Clinches BMW Masters
It wasn’t the most seamless ending but Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano was able to secure the BMW Masters title with a double bogey on the 17th. Giving the Spaniard great hope at his chances of landing a spot on the 2014 Ryder Cup Team.
“It's perfect timing because it's Ryder Cup qualification period right now. It doesn't get any better than this; first event of the first ever Final Series and I got the victory.”
The win for Fernandez-Castano is the first one for Spain on the European Tour this season and guarantees the player a spot at next week’s HSBC Championship. The 33-year-old will now be hoping his game stays consistent and strong enough to win a spot on the coveted European Ryder cup squad.
Telling reporters, “Do I want to make that team? Remember where I come from. I grew up watching Seve and Ollie. Of course it’s a huge dream of mine to play in the Ryder Cup, and so whatever way you look at it, this win represents perfect timing.”
