Karrie Webb Wins Founders Cup and Donates Part of the Purse
On Sunday Karrie Webb secured the LPGA Tour Founders Cup title for the second time. Coming from 6-strokes behind, Webb drilled her way into first place securing her win with a remarkable 9-under 63 in the final round.

Great putting and a determination to win the tournament that celebrates the incredible women that founded the LPGA Tour in 1950, helped push Webb to an astonishing performance on the final day. Carding 10 birdies to achieve her 41st win on the Tour, finishing ahead of New Zealand sensation Lydia Ko and American Stacy Lewis.

“I didn’t expect to be sitting here at the start of the day,” Webb said after the win. “Even actually when I finished the day I didn’t expect to be sitting here. So I feel a little bit lucky, I guess, to be sitting here. But it doesn’t make it feel any less special.”

The Australian great donated $50,000 of the $225,000 USD purse back to the game that has meant so much to her. Splitting her endowment between the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf program and the documentary “The Founders,” a film about the 13 founding members of the LPGA.

Webb explained the latter donation came from learning the film had only raised 10 percent of the budget they needed to complete the project.

“I was just standing on the 18th green when Mike (Whan, LPGA Tour commissioner) was introducing me, and it just came to me that, 'You know, I would love to be a part of that movie being produced,'” said Webb.

The 39-year-old will now hope the strong performance continues as she looks ahead to the first major of 2014, the Kraft Nabisco starting next week.
