Woman Hit in the Face with Golf Ball While Waiting for the Tram
Most of us Londoners are acquainted with the boring task of waiting for the next train to arrive.  Passing the time on our phone, reading the paper or chatting, if lucky enough to be traveling with a loved one.  But for Ann Mulholland this waiting game will never be the same after being hit in the chin by a golf ball while waiting for a tram.

The 66-year-old from South Norwood was on her way to South End in London for a day’s excursion with her sister and a cousin visiting from Australia.  While waiting for a tram at the Arena stop in Croydon, a golf ball came flying over from a driving range 400 yards away, striking Mulholland in the face, resulting in bruising and bleeding to her chin.

“I am lucky it just hit my chin.  If it had hit my eyes or brain I could be dead now,” Mulholland told the Croydon Advertiser.  “We are so paranoid to stand at that tram stop now because of what happened. It could have been a child or someone old.”

As her family was busily attending to the woman’s injury, three more golf balls entered the stop in quick succession.  Leaving Mulholland to remark, “Whoever it was must have been a hell of a golfer.  It came from nowhere and I didn't see it.  If I had seen it I would have ducked.”

World of Golf, the driving range that backs onto the tram stop said in six years this is the first incident they have heard of.  Making Mulholland’s shot to the face a one in 150 million accident.  Both the driving range and Tramlink are said to be shocked at the mishap and are working closely to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
