Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen clinches final automatic Ryder Cup Spot

Thorbjorn Olesen finished T12 yesterday at the Made in Denmark tournament to secure his first invite to the European Ryder Cup Team. Making him the last golfer to earn an automatic spot on fellow countrymen Thomas Bjorn’s squad.

Olesen was battling up until the final day in Denmark to ensure his invite. Fighting off Englishmen, Matt Fitzpatrick and Eddie Pepperell to maintain the points needed for the last automatic spot. The 28-year-old has now become only the third Dane in history to make the Ryder Cup team, behind Soren Hansen and Bjorn.

“I want to congratulate the eight players who have automatically qualified for the 2018 Ryder Cup Team,” Bjorn told reporters yesterday. Adding, “They have all played some incredible golf to make it, and every single one of them is a world-class golfer who will represent Europe with pride and commitment.”

The captain is now firmly focused on locking down the remainder of his Team, with his four captain’s picks expected to be announced on Wednesday afternoon. We can’t wait to see who makes the squad!
