A first at Pebble Beach and a family affair at the Vic Open

It was an exhilarating weekend on Tour, as Pebble Beach welcomed its first Canadian winner and the Vic Open saw a familiar sibling in its winner’s circle. Check up on all the action from the PGA and European Tours below and see the gear the pros are winning with, available now at GolfOnline.

Nick Taylor Outplays Phil Mickelson at Pebble Beach

Nick Taylor has won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, becoming the first Canadian to claim victory at the PGA Tour event.

Phil Mickelson was looking to defend his title on Sunday (and secure what would have been his 6th win here), but in the end had to admit Taylor simply “outplayed” him.

“It’s disappointing certainly to have not won, but I got outplayed,” Mickelson told reporters afterwards. “I mean, Nick played better than I did. He holed a couple of great shots.”

Taylor’s wire-to-wire win was completed with a stellar final round. The 31-year-old started Sunday 1-stroke ahead of Mickelson before lighting the course on fire with an impressive 4-under 32 on the front nine. The TaylorMade player floundered a bit on the back nine, but in the end Taylor was able to hold his nerve. This marks his second PGA Tour victory and earns the golfer an invite to this year’s Masters Tournament.

“That was amazing,” Taylor said after the victory. “I believed I could do it because I’ve done it before. But to do it in that fashion, playing with Phil, gives me a lot of confidence going forward.”

A Brother Gains Bragging Rights over his Sister

Over on the European Tour, Min Woo Lee has claimed his first European Tour victory at the ISPS Handa Vic Open, the same tournament where his sister Minjee Lee won her first event in 2014.

The joint men and women’s event in Australia is currently co-sanctioned by the European and LET Tours. Minjee was on hand after finishing in sixth place to watch her brother’s first professional win.

“I think he did a fantastic job all week, just taming the wind, not everybody can do it,” Minjee told reporters. Adding, “I’m just super proud of him. I know he’s doing a great job.”

The Australian was excited to win his home open, two-strokes ahead of Ryan Fox.

“The Vic Open, it’s a home Open and especially as it’s also a European Tour event, it’s big,” Lee said after his win. “With my sister and I winning the same tournament it is pretty special. And I’ve got bragging rights now so it’s even better.”

With his first win, the 21-year-old also gains a two-year exemption on the European Tour.

“I can pick and choose now on the European Tour and this year I’ll be focusing on that,” Lee told reporters. “I’m looking forward to it.”
