Fleetwood wins Nedbank Golf Challenge

The nearly two-year wait is over for Tommy Fleetwood. On Sunday the English golfer secured his latest win at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa.

Fleetwood began the final round six-strokes behind the lead. But a stellar final round 7-under 65, that included three final eagles, meant the 28-year-old finished in a tie with Sweden’s Marcus Kinhult. Fleetwood then held his nerve to win the first playoff hole and claim his first victory since January 2018.

“Golf is a funny old game and all we want to do is win,” Fleetwood told reporters on Sunday. “Everybody strives for the same thing week in, week out and unless you do you're never satisfied, even finishing second.”

“I was struggling with levels of expectation because I wasn't playing how I thought that I should or achieving the things that I wanted to,” added Fleetwood.

Yesterday’s win earned the golfer an incredible $2.5 million and moves him up to second in the Race to Dubai standings.

“It's such a great, great thing and a feeling to be playing with a chance to win the Race to Dubai in the last event. Everybody starts the Tour at the start of the season to get there and to be one of the guys that can actually finish at the top is very special.”

But for Fleetwood success is most important in terms of family.

“At a young age now you have a chance to set your family up for life and I think of all my achievements that's the thing I'm most proud of.”
