Martin Kaymer Leads the Charge after First Day at Pinehurst
Germany’s Martin Kaymer shot to the top of the leaderboard during Thursday’s first round of the U.S. Open. Carding an incredible 5-under 65 to take a three-stroke lead over his nearest competition.

The first test for Pinehurst No. 2 was easier than had been expected, with many players shooting in the 60s. But heavy rain overnight might make it a different story come today’s tee-off.

As for Kaymer, the 29-year-old looked cool and confident throughout his round but was quick to point out a good start is only just that.

“It's a good round of golf. I wasn't expecting it. I'm not freaking out about it,” he told reporters yesterday.  Adding, “A good start, but that's it. There's nothing more than that.  If other people want to make more out of it, it's fine. For me, it's just a great start into one of the most important weeks of the year.”

Wondering what equipment helped Kaymer land the number 1 spot after Thursday’s first round at the U.S. Open?  Here’s a look at some of the gear the German’s carrying around Pinehurst No. 2 this week.
