Sharpen up your Short Game with new 2018 Golf Wedges

You will use your wedges on about 25 percent of the shots you play on the golf course.  So it’s pretty important to make sure you’re using ones that feature the latest technology to perfectly suit your swing.  The freshest wedge designs are bursting with innovation that’s ready to transform your short game.  From Callaway to Wilson Staff check out all the newest golf wedges available now at GolfOnline plus a sneak peek at the latest Vokey SM7s from Titleist.

Titleist SM7

Titleist is improving on their already massively successful SM6 range of wedges. Coming to retail next month, the Titleist Vokey SM7 Wedges feature a redesigned progressive center of gravity that aligns the CG and impact position of every loft option for the ultimate in versatility, spin rates, distance and trajectory control. The higher lofted models feature higher CG locations for improved launch conditions.

For superior customisation the new SM7 line comes in six different sole grinds (F, S, M, D, K and L) giving every golfer something to choose from. Available in Tour Chrome, Jet Black and Brushed Steel finishes the SM7 Wedges are already proving their worth on Tour with big names including Jordan Spieth, Bill Haas, Patton Kizzire and Jimmy Walker putting them straight in the bag.

Cleveland RTX-3

The Cleveland RTX-3 Wedges took the industry by storm when they were unveiled in 2016. Featuring three new innovations that combine to create the brand’s most consistent wedge performance ever.

With the introduction of Feel Balance Technology, the Cleveland engineers were able to shift the centre of gravity to the centre of the wedge face (known as the impact zone), leading to decreased vibration and maximum head stability at impact. By removing nine grams of mass from the hosel and redistributing it to the wedge head, the RTX-3 not only improves feel but also create the tightest shot dispersion of any wedge Cleveland has ever made.

The range also features three distinct Tour-proven V shape sole grinds, with more leading edge bounce to help get the club head through the turf faster and easier at impact. The V-LG Grind is Cleveland’s narrowest low bounce sole and offers golfers maximum versatility. While the V-MG Grind is the mid-bounce option suitable for a number of players and turf conditions. The V-FG Grind features a forgiving full sole design with trailing edge relief, perfectly designed for soft, wet conditions with a steep angle of attack.

The third generation Rotex Face, featured in the RTX-3, uses a refined groove shape as well as a new Rotex micro-milling pattern, specifically engineered to optimise spin performance by loft and laser milling. The lower lofted wedges employ a straighter 2-pass milling pattern to increase friction when hitting full shots into greens while the higher lofted wedges use an angled pattern to optimise open-face shots.

Available in a Tour Raw, Tour Satin and Black Satin finishes the Cleveland RTX-3 Wedges offer players consistent performance in a super sleek design.

Wilson FG Tour PMP

Wilson Staff have designed the PMP to stand for “Precision Milled Performance.” Maximum volume grooves have been created to produce spin on full shots while laser etched Micro Spin lines will increase spin on partial shots. A precise flat milled face provides further consistency.

Featuring three different grind options the FG Tour PMP looks to add the perfect amount of versatility to your short game. The Traditional Grind provides performance on all types of turf conditions as well as allowing you to manipulate the face without increasing the bounce. The Tour Grind allows you to open the face of the wedge while leaving the leading edge closer to the ground. The Wide Grind will give players a higher bounce angle that will come in handy when you’re trying to escape bunkers.

New for 2018 Wilson Staff has added a “Rusty” wedge to the PMP range. The Wilson Staff FG Tour PMP Raw Wedge has no coating and will therefore rust over time. This will improve the friction off the face and also produce a little bit more spin.

Callaway Mack Daddy 4

With the help of their own Tour players, Callaway’s chief designer Roger Cleveland has created the latest innovation of the Mack Daddy line featuring the new Groove-in-Groove technology. This unique technology features a combination of grooves and micro-grooves on the face of the wedge that provides 84 contact points.

The Mack Daddy 4 Wedges utilise a beautiful shape and premium materials to create excellent feedback and more green side spin. Available in four grinds (C, S, W and the new X) as well as nine loft options, the MD4 can truly help you push performance whilst attacking different angles and course conditions. The Callaway Mack Daddy 4 Wedges are available in a platinum chrome or a matte black finish.
