THERE’S FEEL. THEN THERE’S FORGED FEEL.
For your short game to truly excel, exceptional feel is essential. The MG5 wedges are crafted entirely from ultrasoft carbon steel, delivering consistent softness and responsiveness when performance matters most.
Consistent Performance in All Conditions
Utilising Spin Tread Technology and a RAW face finish, MG5 wedges ensure you maintain premium spin and control, even in damp conditions. Just as tyre treads maintain grip on the road, Spin Tread Technology effectively channels water away from the clubface, boosting friction with the ball at impact.
SAW-MILLED GROOVES
The MG5 wedges are the inaugural models in the MG range to feature aggressive saw-milled grooves. This saw-milling technique allows TaylorMade’s designers to push closer to the regulatory limits of groove geometry. With ultra-tight tolerances, steeper walls, and sharper radii, these grooves significantly increase spin compared to previous MG renditions.
SPIN RETENTION IN WET CONDITIONS
Continuing the legacy of its predecessors, the MG5 wedges utilise a RAW face finish alongside the innovative continuous Spin Tread Technology. This combination helps golfers maintain spin and control even on wet surfaces. The continuous Spin Treads function like all-weather tyres, effectively redirecting water away from the face and enhancing impact friction. With these advanced technologies, the MG5 retains 13% more spin than the MG4 in wet conditions and offers a more consistent launch angle across both wet and dry scenarios.
CHARCOAL FINISH
The MG5 wedges showcase a sophisticated charcoal finish, designed to minimise glare while enhancing aesthetic appeal in your golf bag.
MORE GRIND OPTIONS FOR MORE GOLFERS
Featuring six distinct Tour-inspired grinds, the MG5 wedges have been meticulously crafted by TaylorMade master wedge craftsman, Greg Cesario, providing golfers with a versatile selection to match their playing style. Three of these grinds align with TaylorMade’s standard bounce profile, catering to the preferences of the majority of golfers: the SB, SC, and SX grinds.
SB GRIND
The SB grind boasts a full sole design with constant trailing edge relief, ensuring smooth and consistent turf interaction suitable for various swing types. This grind incorporates gentle four-way camber for enhanced versatility, allowing golfers to adeptly manipulate the face. Additionally, the increased sole width provides an extra layer of forgiveness, particularly beneficial for players with a steeper swing pattern. Most golfers will find this wedge advantageous across diverse turf conditions.
SC GRIND
Recognised as TaylorMade’s signature mid-bounce grind, the SC grind has quickly gained favour among staff club professionals. This medium-low bounce design includes added camber in the centre of the sole, along with distinct heel, toe, and trailing edge relief. The result is a grind engineered for ultimate greenside versatility across all turf conditions, catering to players who appreciate the ability to manipulate the face while ensuring consistent stability on full shots.
SX GRIND
Introducing a new addition to the MG lineup, the SX grind features the widest sole, designed with increased curvature to deliver reliable turf interaction and performance, especially from bunkers. The reverse-C trailing edge provides relief that maintains consistent bounce as golfers adjust the face angle. This grind is precisely tailored for those seeking a superior combination of stability and versatility.
“For the first time in my career, the MG5 lineup of wedges represents the closest thing to the perfect array of grinds, shapes, feel and spin in one package that I’ve seen in over 45 years.” - Greg Cesario, TaylorMade Wedge Master Craftsman
In addition to the three standard bounce options, the MG5 series includes three further grinds for golfers in pursuit of specialised performance.
HB GRIND
Designed for players with steeper swings or those navigating soft conditions, the HB grind features a high-bounce design that provides both stability and forgiveness. Its unique heel relief and tapered trailing edge allow for considerable versatility, enabling quick turf exit without digging.
LB GRIND
The LB grind is characterised by minimal bounce which allows the leading edge to sit close to the ground. The modified C-grind highlights this orientation at address, particularly when the face is opened. The pronounced beveled leading edge and added camber work to prevent the leading edge from digging. This design is ideally suited for golfers with shallow swings, or those playing in tight, firm conditions.
