Press the button on top of the device to wake it and the aiming reticle should appear in the viewfinder. Place the circle on the flag, tree or whatever object you're trying to get a distance to. Push and hold the button to being firing the device and continue to do so until a reading appears. Should you be aiming at a flag, the device will vibrate to let you know you got it. Easy as that.
The device will sleep after a very short period of inactivity, so you don't need to worry about it needlessly using up the battery. The device comes with a nice carry case which should protect it from damage should it be dropped. The case also comes with a handy harness clip so you can easily attach it to your bag. The viewfinder can be focused by turning it, but so far I've found that I seldom need to do so.
Considering it only obtains a yardage (albeit a very accurate one), it's quite expensive considering you could roughly estimate a yardage using other means (a stroke saver, yardage markers, etc). A nice little touch I would like to have seen is some form of rechargeable battery.
With that being said, if you're serious about your golf I'd say it's worth it's relatively expensive price tag, as this device will likely last a number of years due to it's high build quality. Also the fact that it doesn't require any form of software update means there will be no issues with the device no longer being supported.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to a fellow golfer.
