I found this to be an absolutely fantastic product. I had been using a GPS (the Neo) before which would give distance to front, middle, and back but still left the actual distance to the pin as a bit of guesswork. There are also 6 holes with significant elevation changes including a 30m drop where the slope calculation works like a charm. I would highly recommend the Bushnell V2 or the version without the Slope calculation.
The issues to consider:
1. legality. last year, my club stated that rangefinders were now allowed in competition so this year I decided to add the Slope edition to my bag. Last week, they posted an amendment to the rule stating that the only rangefinders permitted are ones that give distance information only without giving information on slope, wind direction, or humidity. If you are planning to use the bushnell in competition, check with your club before purchasing to make sure you buy an approved model.
2. like any rangefinder, you need line of sight. A rake sticking up out of a bunker, a tree, or a hill between you and the flag can make it difficult to get a reading. A GPS is still useful to have as a backup in case of blind shots or obstacles.
3. On windy days, the movement of the flag (and yourself) can make it difficult to get a correct reading. It is helpful to steady your hand by resting your elbow on your trolley to reduce movement of the unit. It is also a good idea to have an idea in mind of what you expect for a distance so that you can take a second reading if there is a difference (i.e. in case you are picking up a tree behind the pin due to the pin having not been centered).
