Golfers Contend with Bizarre Hazard at Stapleford Park

Golfers Contend with Bizarre Hazard at Stapleford Park
Last Tuesday was no ordinary round for those on the greens at Stapleford Park, near Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire. Beyond bunkers and high rough a new and extremely unusual hazard presented itself on the 16th hole- a glider!

The club’s PGA professional, Rich Alderson explained that he received a call from members on the 3rd hole saying they had just watched the aircraft land on the fairway at the 16th.

“I went out on a buggy and picked up the pilot and his co-pilot and brought them back to the clubhouse where they waited for a couple of hours for their support team to arrive.”

The glider pilot, Luke Dale, is thought to have lost altitude while taking part in the Midland Regionals event series. Forcing him to land on the golf course, also home to a luxury hotel and spa.

The Golf Academy of Stapleford Park posted a picture of the scene on their Facebook account with the caption,

“Some have said that the fairways are a bit hard to hit at the moment but someone managed to land a glider on the 16th fairway! In an area affectionately known as 'The Bermuda Triangle' because even in the winter with no rough, balls just disappear!”
