15-Year-Old Qualifies for Next Week’s U.S. Open
A 15-year-old golfer in America has qualified for the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay by winning a sectional qualifier in Dallas, Texas.

While most 15-year-old’s in Texas were enjoying the start of summer vacation by having lie-in or hanging out with friends, Cole Hammer was hitting the golf course with men, some more than twice his age.

Producing a sensational 36 holes on Monday that saw the young golfer finish at 8-under-par, Hammer was able to nab one of six spots available to play at the major set to begin next week. The teenager who turns 16 at the end of August now becomes the 4th youngest player to earn a place at the prestigious event.

“This means the world to me,” Hammer told The Dallas Morning News. “I’ve dreamt about it my whole life. It’s going to be awesome.”

While Hammer has only just finished his freshman year of high school, his golf goals are firmly in place for the future. With the teenager already committed to playing at The University of Texas beginning in the autumn of 2018. The same place another talented Texan started his college golf career – Jordan Spieth!
