Annika Sorenstam Helps Grow the Game at the Inaugural FBM Ladies Open
Golf legend Annika Sorenstam is in Abu Dhabi as the region hosts its first-ever women’s professional golf tournament, the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open.

On Monday the ten-time major winner kicked off the event’s developmental activities programme with a clinic attended by over 50 children. Here Sorenstam talked about her experiences as a professional golfer, gave useful golf tips and also provided the class with a glimpse at her impressive shot-making abilities.

Throughout the week players participating in the LET event will also be dedicating time to the development of the game in Abu Dhabi. It is the hope that the LET’s presence there this week will help to inspire a new generation of players, especially girls and even more specifically, Emirati women.

The scheduled sessions will give those both new and old to the game of golf an opportunity to have their questions answered by some of the world’s top female golfers.

David Collins from the event promoter, Wasserman, said, “At the pre-event press conference, we heard the Technical Affairs Director at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Talal Al Hashemi, talk about the work being done through the event to raise the profile of golf for women and attract more Emirati women to the game. The development programme at this event is a key part of that strategy, so we’re really grateful to the players for getting behind the various activities we’ve organised.”
