Fifteen years after becoming the first player to win using the
Titleist Pro V1 golf ball, Billy Andrade has done it again with victory at the Boeing Classic!
While the
Titleist Pro V1 golf ball feels like it has been around forever, few people will be able to remember that the first player to actually win with it was in fact Andrade.
The story goes he was struggling so much on the PGA Tour that he had already sent in his application for Q-school for the following season. On the premise he believed he had done so badly he wasn't going to keep his playing card exemption. Andrade then decided to use the new and revolutionary Pro V1 in its first official event and played out of his skin shooting an incredible 28-under-par! In doing this he beat fellow American Phil Mickelson by 1-shot. Andrade called it his "eureka" moment and has never looked back.
Now playing on The Champions Tour, Andrade is still using the legendary ball which helped him secure a single shot victory this weekend over fellow Pro V1 golfer Bernhard Langer with a strong 9-under-par total.
