Cheyenne Woods is Making Waves and Living Up to the Family Name

Cheyenne Woods is Making Waves and Living Up to the Family Name
Another Woods is starting to make some noise on the Tour circuit. Tiger’s 23-year-old niece, Cheyenne Woods is proving she’s more than just a name on the Ladies’ European Tour, shooting a career-best 64 in the first round of last weekend’s Open de Espana Femenino, in Madrid. So does she find it difficult to follow in her famous uncle’s footsteps?

“Being a Woods is definitely not a burden,” says the Nike player. “Yes, you do have that added pressure, the expectation that comes with the name. But I've had it since I was 10 years old, which is when I started competing nationally. It is something that I am able to turn off when I get on the course, so that's no big deal for me.”

Hopefully Woods will be able to turn off the expectation this weekend as she tees off at her first British tournament. Beginning today, she will be playing in the ISPS Handa Ladies European Masters in Denham, Buckinghamshire. A top finish here will earn her a spot on the old course at St. Andrew’s next week. An honour the younger Woods would certainly love to have.
