Furyk’s High from History Making 59 Comes Crashing Down

Furyk’s High from History Making 59 Comes Crashing Down
What began as a weekend of great hope and mega success for Jim Furyk came to an abrupt end on Monday at Conway Farms.  The 43-year-old’s elation from Friday’s round of 59 quickly dissipated as not one but two players passed him in the final round of the BMW Championship.  Relegating Furyk to third place behind Nick Watney and winner Zach Johnson.

“You can't help but feel for him,” said Johnson after his win.  “Jim had a remarkable week.  He's the kind of guy I've tried to model my game after.  He doesn't overpower golf courses.  He's one of the steadiest players we've seen in the last 15 years, and as a result his résumé is as deep as it is.”

Despite his steadiness Furyk seems unable to finish when it matters most.  Losing the last six tournaments where he’s led or shared the lead going into the final round.

“I don't know if I used them all up on Friday and knocked them all in or what, but I just wasn't able to get the putts to go,” said the Callaway player after Monday’s final round.

Furyk now looks firmly ahead to the final FedEx Cup playoff starting today in Atlanta, Georgia.  Featuring the top 30 players, the elite Tour Championship will be the deciding factor in who walks away with a $10 million bonus and the FedEx Cup title for 2013.
