James Hahn Secures 2nd PGA Win after 8 Missed Cuts

American James Hahn has won his second title on the PGA Tour after a playoff with Roberto Castro at the Wells Fargo Championship.

The South Korean born golfer has not had an easy time on the golf course as of late. After missing his previous eight-consecutive cuts, Hahn was one of the last players we expected to be writing about come this Monday morning. A revelation not lost on the former shoe salesman who seemed as stunned as we were by his victory at Quail Hollow.

“Missing eight straight cuts is tough,” Hahn told reporters after his win.

“You start questioning yourself, wonder if you’re good enough, and you look into the future and wonder if you have to sell shoes again. But I have a great team around me and kept believing.”

Hahn secured his victory after a stunning final round 70 to close out the tournament with a 9-under 279. His playoff with Castro ended with Hahn holing a four-foot putt on the par-4 18th hole. And just like that his luck seemed to change with the American suddenly becoming $1.314 million richer!

“The mind is a powerful thing and it [my golf game] was going bad for a while. [I] just didn’t have the confidence, didn’t believe in myself,” explained Hahn. “So I think the turning point was in New Orleans at the Zurich Championship that my caddie and I, we just kind of had a talk that, hey, look, you just have to keep believing in yourself, keep grinding because it’s not always going to be like this.”

The pep talk between player and caddie seems to have done the trick for Hahn, who also stated the support and love from his wife and daughter really helped him get through his slump.

“I constantly remind myself that I’m good enough and that I belong out here. Was kind of chanting to myself that I can do this, I will do this and I must do this. I mean, this is something that I look in my daughter’s eyes and say, hey, I can’t give up on you, I have to do this. So having family like that, my wife supporting me, it really gives me that extra fire to keep going.”

Hahn’s incredible win on Sunday also marked an important milestone for his equipment sponsor – Parsons Xtreme Golf. The Wells Fargo title is there first win on the PGA Tour, a feat that’s pretty incredible for a newly-formed golf company.

Speaking to Golf Digest just after Hahn’s win the company CEO Bob Parsons said, “For me to say that we didn’t need this would be nuts. Our staff players and we already knew that these clubs were in a class by themselves, but this win is a wonderful thing for us.”
