PGA Championship Staying in America – For Now

PGA Championship Staying in America – For Now
European golf fans had their hopes dashed yesterday as PGA Chief Executive Pete Bevacqua announced any plans to move the PGA Championship overseas were on the “back burner.”

The revelation came after Bevacqua was asked by a reporter during a press conference at Whistling Straits whether or not the PGA was still considering its future options regarding the Tour’s fourth and final major of the year.

Two years ago Bevacqua stated the PGA was investigating taking the event outside the U.S.  A possibility that would have made a lot of European golf fans happy.  Fast-forward to yesterday and the Chief Executive made it clear that while the Tour is still considering the opportunity, it won’t be anytime soon.

“Have we talked and done an analysis of an international PGA Championship? Absolutely,” Bevacqua told reporters.  “We have learned some very interesting lessons from that, both positives and negatives, as you can imagine.  I would say for the moment it’s on the back burner.  It’s certainly not forgotten.  It’s something we’ll always consider.”

One golfer definitely not happy with the Chief’s response is Gary Player.  With the 9-time major winner sharing his disappointment with his legion of Twitter followers.
